I create refined textiles that feel wonderful against the skin while also being strong and practical for daily living.

My work uses fine threads and luxury fibers like cashmere, merino, silk, and linen. I value them for softness and drape and love seeking out unusual fibers or yarns that can offer a bit of surprise, such as donegals sprinkled with color, fluffy yak, or smooth vicuña.

I am endlessly fascinated to see what can be made with my hands and how those items become luxurious and practical parts of daily life.

About Me

I’m Jennifer Girouard. I live in a small town on the top of a hill in the woods of Southern Vermont.

I weave in a converted garden shed tucked in amongst pine trees and alongside a woodpile that’s home to some lively chipmunks who often peak in through the windows to see what I am up to. It is not unusual to see a bear or fox pass by while I’m working (the bears are awe- and fear-inspiring; I prefer the cute foxes).

I am also a trained social scientist with experience in arts-based research.

As a longtime embroiderer, I was always fascinated by how much can be accomplished with a little bit of thread and your hands. My passion for textiles made me curious about creating my own fabric to embroider on, which led me to weaving.  I started with a rigid heddle and fell immediately in love.

The items I treasure most are those that come from other weavers, such as the loom that was owned by a lovely older lady who had to stop using it when her eyesight failed. I love finding notes about her projects tucked away in the books she gave me. My shuttles are sometimes labeled with the names of her friends or decorated with smiley faces.  I feel honored to be working with these tools in their lineage.
